Does it feel like summer is going by too quickly? As we turn the calendar into August, the carefree days filled with vacations, outdoor fun, and less restricted routines begin to turn into more rigid schedules. So, how do we prepare ourselves for this inevitable change? Well, it may not be that difficult for adults to adjust to. But, how about our kids?
Sensory Bins
Sensory bins aren’t a new concept but have recently gained popularity. These bins are great for children of all ages to learn and explore with their hands and various other items in the bin. Although you can buy a premade sensory bin (this is what I did), they are actually fairly easy to make and just require some creativity. Depending on what you have around your house, you might not even need to purchase anything. Here are the main parts of a sensory bin.
Halloween & Kids
Halloween can be such a fun and exciting time for many individuals. Most kids get excited to dress up as their favorite character and load their bellies with lots of candy. However, what happens when Halloween isn’t a fun time for your child? What happens if they get nervous about the costumes? What happens if they can’t eat most candy because of allergies? What happens when almost everyone at school has paired off for festivities and your child is now excluded?
Age-Appropriate Chores
Some parents believe that chores are something children should be engaging in as early as possible, whereas other parents don’t believe their children should have to complete chores. Whatever works for your family and parenting style is what you do. However, I often encourage parents to assign some chores to their children as it is a great way to increase independence, self-esteem, confidence, and responsibility. Regardless of your stance on chores, there is no reason children cannot help out around the house, especially if it relates to a mess they made.
